The combination of violin and violoncello is marked by the tension between sonic unity and, at the same time, opposing qualities. Stimulating dialogues between the two instruments thus arise, imbued with the individual musical language of each composer represented. Ravel, known as a representative of Impressionism, sets out upon new paths with his "Sonate pour Violon et Violoncelle," severely restricting his melodic language and voice-leading here. Halvorsen based on a work of Händel forms the virtuoso culmination of this production.
