Literally an 11th-hour entry, this CD arrived in the mail just days before our copy deadline with an urgent “must review for the January/February 2009 issue.” With that kind of pressure, I set all other remaining assignments aside to audition this release of works by a modern Lithuanian composer, which, given my oft-repeated hostility to clangorous, cacophonous noise masquerading as music, might have received a fairer hearing had it been sent to another contributor more attuned and sympathetic to this sort of thing. But don’t assume the worst. Read on.
