| Campion | After the fifty years of Soviet occupation which ended in only 1989, the "White House" became the home of the present Latvian National Opera. After the inevitable upheavals following national independence, the Latvian National Opera soon thrived and, with a combination of young Latvians and foreign stars, is already well on the way to restoring Riga to a prominent place not only in Baltic culture but, with an active touring company, to a position of prominence in European culture generally. This performance is a live recording of a performance that took place in the opera house in 1989. |
