Philippe Entremont will be fondly recalled by veteran collectors as one of the most important pianists to emerge in the late 1950's with many cherished recordings for the Columbia label under Leonard Bernstein and, especially, Eugene Ormandy. In later years he took up conducting, and in one of his first recordings, during the 1970's, was a highly enjoyable LP of Erik Satie's orchestral works. In the past few years he has been performing, teaching and recording in Europe, producing numerous CD's under the Cascavelle label. This fine performance of the Schubert's 'Sympony No. 9' along with the arrangement of the Strauss will certainly be of "local" interest, as the recording was made live in Massachusetts by the renowned staff of Boston's WGBH Radio |
