C.E.F. Weyse (1774-1842) was one of the most important figures in Danish musical life in the transition to Romantism around 1800. He is best known today for his songs; but his other works also include seven symphonies, several operas, cantatas and a large number of piano works. The last four of a total of eight piano sonatas are recorded here for the first time. The music is inspired by C.P.E. Bach, Haydn, Clementi and Mozart, but at the same time exhibits many personal features such as singable themes that makes Weyse the unsurpassed master of the genre in the period
