Disc No: 8.224183 | Paul von Klenau (1883-1946) was Danish-born, but as a young man he left his native country to study and work in Germany and Austria. His early symphonies are influenced by Bruckner, while later influences come from both French music and Schoenberg’s twelve-tone technique. Klenau never won recognition in Denmark, but held important conducting posts abroad, for example at the Wiener Konzerthausgesellschaft, and was a friend of Alban Berg. |
