The CD Otto Olsson Organ Works: Gregorian pieces offers, for the first time, a full picture of Olsson's plainsong-based organ music, where ascetic medieval mysticism is confronted with the rich sound palette of the Romantic organ. Three of the thirteen pieces are recorded here for the first time. The recording was made on the organ in Kristinehamn Church in Sweden, the only large organ of the Swedish late Romantic tradition where the authentic sound has been completely preserved. The organist, Sverker Jullander, specializes both as a performer and a musicologist, in late Romantic music. He is one of the leading soloorganists in Sweden and wrote his doctoral dissertation on the organ music of Otto Olsson. |
