Leningrad-born Berman had an oftenmuscular approach to the piano, and a huge, thunderous technique that made him a fine representative of the grand school of Russian Romantic pianism. Berman spoke of having learned to ”sing” on the piano through listening to recordings of the great Italian lyric tenors, primarily Caruso and Gobbi. |
