Baldassarre Galuppi applied most of his creative talent to melodrama, becoming one of the most celebrated composers of serious and comic opera of the 18th century. Some of them were excellent works, thanks also to the collaboration with Carlo Goldoni as a librettist. Galuppi, however, was also a great keyboard virtuoso, as it is witnessed by the numerous sonatas dedicated to the harpsichord and the eight concertos featured in our CD, here at their first complete recording. Most of them are still in full Baroque style, but a few, particularly the grand Concerto in D Major, reveal an artistic maturity that is indeed classical, and extraordinary melodic invention.
