Our CD features three works by authors of the German and Dutch area, active in the first half of the 19th century, where the two instruments, piano and flute, find a satisfactory concertante balance; these compositions are written in Biedermeier style, but contain passages of fine expressive commitment. Richter’s Duo Concertante, Wilms’s Sonata in D Major and Müller’s Sonata in C Major Op.38 are three world debut recordings that reveal how, in addition to works for flute written for immediate and problem-free consumption, the German area produced also a higher level output for that instrument. Francesca Pagnini and Mauro Bidoli are specialists in the Biedermeier repertoire, interpreting these works with refined musicality.
