This double CD features for the first time together the three works that Furtwängler conducted in concert in Lugano on 15th May 1954, six months before his death. Furtwängler was often sublime in his last appearances. This Lugano performance dating from 15th May 1954 is a fine example, with a reading of Beethoven's Pastoral which in the last three flares up with incredible sparkle and humanity. Just as beautiful is Mozart's Concerto KV 466, where Furtwängler accompanies with sorrowful intensity a fine Yvonne Lefébure, a pianist whose renown was greatly inferior to her merits.
