| Price: Sek. 75 | It is curious that the recording career of some of the best artists of our century should not reflect their real worth: the recordings featuring Erich Kleibcr, for example, are ridiculously few compared to those of other conductors who, to be perfectly honest, were not half as worthy; but they, it must be remembered, were not obliged to leave Europe at the apex of their careers, as happened to Jewish musicians opposed to the regime in Austria and Germany, who were forced to flee from Nazism. This double CD set features some unforgettable Kleiber performances, from Schubert’s ”Unfinished” Symphony, a studio recording from 1935 with the Berliner Philharmoniker, to the 1955 recording of Tchaikovsky’s ”Pathétique”, one of the finest he ever made. All digitally re-mastered. |
