Die Walküre forms the second part of 'The Ring of the Nibelung'. This four part work was an enormous project such as the nineteenth century which was to see so many large-scale works produced, seldom witnessed. Probably only Gœthe’s “Faust” can be compared with it. Wagner toiled with the idea for a period of twenty six years from 1848 to 1874. Although he didn’t actually plan it to be such a huge undertaking; he gradually proceeded from out of the initial work on Siegfried, the hero of the German national epic “The Nibelungs”
