Mantovani was one of the greatest conductors of popular orchestral music during the 20th century. He was also a prolific recording artist, who soon took advantage of the opportunities offered by long-playing records when they started to gain wide acceptance during the 1950s. Many of his fine albums have already been reissued on compact discs by various companies, yet there are still some of his recordings – highly prized by his legion of admirers – that have so far failed to reappear from the dusty vaults. |
