Charles-Marie Widor grew up in a distinguished musical family in Lyon: his father was organist of the church of St-François-de-Sales for fifty years, and his younger brother Paul was a talented amateur musician who became a lawyer of national repute. During the 1860s Widor began to establish his reputation in Paris, with regular concert engagements both at home and abroad. |
