Carl Rütti was born in Zug, Switzerland, in 1949. He studied piano and organ at the Zürich Conservatory, graduating in 1975 followed by further studies in London, where he encountered the English choral tradition. He has composed several large-scale choral works, including a half-hour setting of the Veni Creator Spiritus for 40-part choir. Several of his works were broadcast by the BBC Singers and his music was heard at the Henry Wood Proms in 1999. He is professor of piano at the Zürich Conservatory and organist at the church of St Peter and St Paul in Oberägeri. Thus far, there are five organ works by Rütti of varying length and complexity, which will be discussed chronologically.
