Naxos | Another recoupling which now adds the Holberg Suite to the previously available 8.550864, now bringing the playing time to 75'30". Though Grieg wrote a considerable amount of music, his popular concert-hall reputation rests on just three works - the Piano Concerto, and two Suites from his incidental music to Peer Gynt. Like so many intrinsically national composers, it took some time for Grieg to establish himself, but once achieved he became Norway's national composer. Yet much of his music, particularly the Holberg Suite, demonstrate that his musical education had taken place in Germany, and at times this even spills over into Peer Gynt. |
