Naxos | In a long and distinguished career, Marcel Dupre became the most highly regarded French organist/composer of the mid-20th century. He travelled the world as a concert organist, and become widely known for his improvisations. These thrilling inventions produced upon the presentation of a theme, and captivated his large audiences wherever he appeared. He was a prolific composer strongly influenced by music of the late 19th century, his scores being rhythmically robust and characterised by long sweeping melodies. He was deeply interested in the music of Bach, composing a copious series of Organ Chorales, in which he created the modern counterparts to the chorales by the great 18th century composer. |
