Naxos | Born into a musical family in Germany in 1713, Johann Tobias Krebs was to become a pupil in the organ class of Johann Sebastian Bach. His brilliance at the keyboard was unrivalled in his time, yet he found difficulty in gaining employment worthy of his outstanding musical achievements. Though this resigned him to poverty throughout his life, the limited demands of his minor appointments did provide time for him to build a sizeable catalogue of compositions. He wrote in sacred and secular mode, his music for organ displaying a composer of outstanding qualities, with an original and a consistently distinguished level of invention. |
