Naxos | Francis Poulenc became a highly influential and popular French classical composer working during the central part of the 20th century. His output covered every genre, his quite unmistakable style given pungency by mischievous use of harmony. Today he is best known for his large-scale symphonic and choral works, though throughout much of his career he created exquisite miniatures, many of his extended piano works being assembled from these short sections. The disc covers the much of Poulenc's life, and captures him in nostalgic, humorous, happy and outrageous moods, all served up with that elan the composer never failed to achieve. |
