Naxos | At the age of six Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart made his debut as a keyboard soloist in Munich, and a few months later in Vienna. Visits to Paris and London received critical acclaim, and by the time he was ten he had composed a considerable quantity of published works. His conducting debut came at the age of twelve, and by the time of death, at the age of thirty-five, his vast array of scores included 20 operas, 41 symphonies, 25 keyboard concertos, and 26 string quartets. He also wrote a large number of sacred works, including two major settings of the Roman Catholic Vespers. Though still in his early twenties at the time of their composition, Mozart created music that perfectly captured the significance of the words. The second of the two works, known as the Vesperse solennes de confessore (Solemn Vespers), has become the more popular, and is one of the most important 18th century choral compositions |
