Naxos | After studying piano and composition, Phillipe Manoury embarked on a career in musical education that took him to South America. On his return to Paris, he was invited to join the Paris contemporary music institution, IRCAM, and became involved in the field of computerised music, leading to a period of experimentalist composition. His return to the use of conventional instruments resulted in a number of his works being included in the programmes of major symphony orchestras. The opera 60th Parallel was completed in 1996, and relates a dramatic story set in an airport paralysed by a snowstorm. Manoury uses voices in a conventional operatic mode, with the orchestra and electronic effects expressing the feelings of the characters that are not stated in words. The opera leaves the audience to add their own ending to the story. Disc No: 8.554249-50 | Price: Sek. 148 | Name: Manoury - 60th parallel
