| Naxos | Tielman Susato was a highly regarded calligrapher, sharing his time with the post of trumpeter to the town of Antwerp. The two careers were to be combined in 1543, when he founded a music publishing company. Among his major issues were books of Flemish songs, Susato's objective being to make music of the region more accessible, though he was to discover too few for a series of books. He was to add many of his own chansons, often written in a style to encourage young singers, and to make such music more popular. He stands today as one of the most important father figures of 16th century music of the Netherlands. |
