Naxos | Though little is known of the early life of Johann Caspar Fischer, he was a major composer for more than sixty years, though works attributed to him in later life may well have come from his son. As music director, harpsichordist and composer, he brought the musical establishment royal house at Baden to new levels of attainment, and was responsible for introducing a French influence into German music. This fusion of styles appears in the nine extensive suites known as Musicalischer Parnassus. In transforming the French orchestral dances to the more restricted tonal scale of the harpsichord, Fischer achieved a series of works that contain a vivacity and piquant pleasure to rival the keyboard music of Scarlatti. |
