Naxos | The Polish composer, Krzysztof Penderecki, established a reputation as one of the most revolutionary composers of the 20th century, his early scores gaining a cult status among modernists. In the mid-1960's he returned to a more traditional and populist style of composing, using melodic conventions as the basis of his music. This return to tonality generated a renewed interest in the symphony, the Third Symphony being a score of iridescent tonal colours. From his earlier works, the deeply disturbing Threnody for the Victims of Hiroshima has become one of his best known orchestral scores. |
