Naxos | During the 15th and 16th centuries the Franco-Flemish alliance brought to that part of Europe a prosperity in which the arts flourished. Music from native Flemish composers was taken around Europe, and the region attracted musicians from far afield to work in the major cities. A school of composition emerged, open to the external influences of musicians arriving from Italy, Austria, Germany and England. This disc brings together the famous Flemish composers and those who were influenced by their music, creating a collection of works for voices and instruments that range from humorous songs to polyphonic church music. |
