Naxos | Enrique Granados was the most important composer Spain produced in the 19th century. Primarily a brilliant pianist, he also gained international recognition as a composer. Though his catalogue of works includes operas, symphonic and chamber music, it is his piano music that has remained in the popular classical repertoire. His scores are essentially Spanish in mood and inspiration, capturing the life of his native land, from the brilliant colours of the midday sun in Capricho espanol, to the more restrained and subtle hues of Escenas romanticas. This recording uses Douglas Riva's new edition of Granados's complete works for piano. |
