He was prolific, and at one stage of his career composed seventeen operas in 20 years. Il Trovatore was completed in 1863, and followed the success enjoyed by Rigoletto. Opera had never before witnessed such a triumph, and within a matter of a few years it had been performed in every part of the world. It's mixture of love and drama is captured in a series of outstanding arias and choruses that have entered the popular operatic repertoire.
