| Naxos | Alexander Konstantinovich Glazunov was born in St. Petersburg in 1865, his career as pianist, conductor and composer extending well into the 20th century. A Rimsky-Korsakov pupil, his vast quantity of music is characterised by his attachment to his mentor¡¦s use of exotic colours. Today he is best known by the ballet score for Raymonda; the vivacious Violin Concerto, and a brilliant series of nine symphonies that captured the vibrancy of Russian life. This compilation provides an ideal introduction to the composer's orchestral output that is now being released for Naxos. |
