Oehms on sale The Mozarteum Quartett has a long tradition – over 50 years. In 1955, the co-founder and later president of the Salzburg Festival, Bernhard Paumgartner, designated this name for use by the quartet of the first concertmaster of the Mozarteum Orchestra Salzburg. Since 1998, the ensemble has been led by concertmaster Markus Tomasi, who studied in Salzburg and Vienna. With Tomasi at first desk, the Mozarteum Quartett has performed on major stages at festivals in Europe, Japan and South America. The group’s new CD presents two of the famous six “Haydn Quartets” by W.A. Mozart. The Quartet K. 80, written by the 14-year-old Mozart, is rarely performed, even though the composer himself was particularly fond of it in his later years. |
