With this CD Stefan Schill presents three important oboe concerts from the 20th century; and he could not have chosen a more appropriate and qualified ensemble to accompany him: The Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra is one of the world’s most renowned ensembles, and this recording was directed by its conductor-in-chief Mariss Jansons. Although Richard Strauss, Bernd Alois Zimmermann and Bohuslav Martinu wrote their concertos within a period of just 10 years (1945–1955), they are examples of very different traditions and styles, thus impressively conveying the different views on music that coexisted after World War II. |
