After the premature death of Franz Schubert none could be more distressing than that of Burgmüller. Instead of fate once choosing to decimate those of mediocre abilitywho surrounds us in thir droves, it takes from us the finest generals. With these words Robert Schumann described his fellow composer in the Neue Musikzeitung as Burgmüller died at the age of 26
Hugo Staehle, also a pupil of the Kassel school and Louis Spohr, died young. At the age of 22 he died of meningitis, but managed to leave behind him a concert overture, the opera Arria various chamber works and the symphony, composed when he was 18 years old.
