Timpani on sale For its first incursions into the universe of Gabriel Fauré’s songs, Timpani’s La Mélodie française collection, at present boasting fifteen titles essential for every aficionado of the genre, has chosen Yann Beuron, ‘the most stylised of our tenors’ (Diapason, July 2009). He is partnered by pianist Billy Eidi, quite recently crowned by the Académie du Disque Lyrique (‘Gerald Moore Award’, Orphée d’Or for best accompanist), who wanted to devote this disc to Fauré’s ‘Third Collection’: some twenty songs spanning the years 1888-1904 (from Larmes to Le Ramier, by way of the famous Mélodies de Venise). This represents one of the peaks of French song, for the radiant beauty of the melodic lines and refinement of the harmonies as much as for the close complicity required of the voice-piano tandem. |
