Disc No: CD-1076 | Works for cello and piano by Chopin and Schumann. Two central figures in the early years of the Romantic era have been brought together on this disc - both of them in a slightly unfamiliar role. Chopin the great innovator on the piano and Schumann the creator of Lieder of great psychological depth here appear as composers for the cello. The works recorded were all composed during the last years of the 1840s - tumultuous years in the two composers' personal lives as well as in the world around them. The mood in these pieces swings from impassioned to lyric and playful. And no one could better bring out these qualities than BIS veterans Torleif Thedéen and Roland Pöntinen |
