Disc No: IDIS-6474 | For some unfathomable reason the official discography was always rather indifferent to Magda Olivero, one of the most popular and admired vocalists of the 1900s, and quite a phenomenon as far as artistic longevity and mastery of interpretation. Time, however, did the Piedmontese soprano justice: thanks to her flawless technique and constant practising, in 1994, at the distinguished age of eighty-three, she was able to stun the world of opera with a recording of excerpts from her favourite work, Adriana Lecouverur. It was a small but well-deserved revenge for the lack of interest of record companies, who unfortunately failed to document in an appropriate way her formidable artistic parabola. The present CD offers most of the studio recordings made by Olivero between 1938 and 1953, documenting the talent of this wonderful artist, who was born and lived in the golden years of opera. |
