As a consequence of his long life as a performing musicians and his continuing fascination with recording techniques, the published discographies of Leopold Stokowski are amongst the largest of all conductors, both in terms of breadth of repertoire and number of discs issued. He made records for sixty years, from 1917-77, which is an astonishing achievement in itself (he was not however the only conductor to enjoy such longevity as a recording artist), but a glance at his discography reveals that the two composers whose music he recorded more than any other were Johann Sebastian Bach and Peter Ilych Tchaikovsky
