Founded in 1964 by Sir John Eliot Gardiner as a specialist baroque ensemble, the Monteverdi Choir became internationally renowned for its performances and recordings. With the founding of the English Baroque Soloists in 1979 and the Orchestre Révolutionnaire et Romantique in 1990, Monteverdi Choir & Orchestra fast established itself as a leading influence in every area of the repertoire, winning numerous international awards, rivalling classic recordings of the catalogue, from Monteverdi to Britten. A pioneering organisation, Monteverdi Choir & Orchestra achieved its most ambitious project to date in 2000 - the Bach Cantata Pilgrimage.
